Using the Frog @Ease Floating System for Easy Spa Water Maintenance

Hot tub water care can be a challenge, even for those of us with lots of experience. So much of your routine depends on how often the spa is used, how many people were in it, for how long, and how clean they were when they got in. The Frog System smooths out much of the guess work of keeping your water clean and clear.

The Frog System is made up of 2 parts. The blue half is a mineral component, the silver half contains their Smartchlor chlorine pellets. There is a dial setting you’ll need to adjust, that goes from 1 to 4. I have a spa with about 400 gallons and the #3 setting works for us. Smaller spas will take a lower setting.

  • To get started, you need to buy the complete system, shown here. And then here you will see the 3-pack of the smartchlor replacements. These initial purchases will last a total of 3 ½ – 4 months.
  • The next time you change your spa water start with their Jump Start shock package supplied in the complete system box.
  • Next, combine the blue and silver halves together to make the “ball”. Then just put the ball in the water and let it float around all the time.
  • As it floats around, the blue half will be on top for several weeks.
  • As the silver smartchlor cartridge wears down, the blue mineral pack will begin to flip from the top to bottom. This usually takes about 3-4 weeks. At that point, just replace the silver smartchlor cartridge and you are good for another 3-4 weeks. When all 4 smartchlor packs are gone, it’s time to start again. I’ve found I almost never need to add additional chlorine to my spa and the water is always clean and clear. Shock the water about once a month and still adjust ph and alkalinity as needed.

Now the benefits of water care protection is cumulative, so keep using your ozone system if you have one. If you like adding natural enzymes to the water, keep doing that too. Also, rinse your spa filters monthly and replace them every 2 ½ years.
