Summer is in full swing—and if you’ve been soaking up the sun (and the bubbles), now’s the perfect time for a mid-year spa tune-up. Whether you’re preparing for more backyard get-togethers or just want your spa in peak shape, a quick check now can save you time and money later.

Here’s a handy checklist to keep your spa clean, efficient, and ready to enjoy all summer long.

1. Balance Your Water Chemistry

Warm weather and frequent use can throw your spa’s chemistry off-balance fast. Check and adjust:

  • Sanitizer (chlorine or bromine)
  • pH (ideal: 7.2–7.8)
  • Alkalinity (ideal: 80–120 ppm)
  • Calcium hardness (especially important in hot summer months)

Pro tip: After a big party or heavy use, test your water the next day—it may need rebalancing.

2. Inspect and Clean Your Filters

Your spa filter works overtime during summer, catching oils, sunscreen, and debris. Mid-year is the ideal time to:

  • Remove and rinse filters with a garden hose
  • Soak in a filter cleaning solution overnight (available here)
  • Replace if they’re over 12 months old or visibly worn

3. Check for Leaks, Noisy Pumps, and Flow Issues

Your spa pump and circulation system are the heart of your setup. In June:

  • Look for signs of leaks or moisture under the cabinet
  • Listen for odd noises or vibrations from your pump
  • Confirm your circulation is strong at all jets

If you hear a hum or a grinding sound, it might be time to service or replace your spa pump. You can browse top brands like  AquaFlo, LX, and Waterway right here.

4. Test Your Heater and Thermostat

Even in summer, spas should hold a steady temperature without overworking the heater. If your spa struggles to heat up or shuts off unexpectedly:

  • Make sure the water level is correct
  • Clean your filter (blockages can cause overheating)
  • Watch for OH or HL error codes

5. Examine Jets, Diverter Valves, and Pillows

Comfort matters! Make sure:

  • All jets are working (no weak pressure or blockages)
  • Diverter valves turn smoothly (no sticking or leaks)
  • Spa pillows aren’t worn, faded, or loose

Need replacements? We stock OEM pillows for brands like Bullfrog, Dimension One, and more.

6. Check Ozone or Salt Systems (if equipped)

If your spa has an ozone or saltwater system, this is a great time to:

  • Inspect tubing for clogs or cracks
  • Replace ozone cartridges or salt cells if needed
  • Make sure your system indicator lights are working

Enjoy a safe, clean, and relaxing summer—with peace of mind that your hot tub is ready for anything.
